Football - College football begins

College football starts.  More info to come, any interesting nugs I will let you know.

Olympics - Track - World’s Fastest Man

Usain Bolt of Jamaica wins gold breaks his own world record in 100m.

He ran it in 9.69      Tyson Gay of the U.S. did not even make it to the finals.

Olympics - Highlights 08/13/08

Its too crazy for me to write about every record broken or every notable thing that happens as it happens in the olympics.  Its practically an every moment thing.

So I will tell you what I think is notable:

- Gymanstics (Mens Team Final) - U.S. gets bronze

This totally smelled because they had a chance, guy named Horton was crushing everything, just sticking every landing.  Then this one guy, who only had to do one event, that all he was waiting for, he gets up and does pommel horse and messes up. Then that rattled the next guy on pommel horse  and the silver and gold were out reach.  They got bronze, and it was an accomplishment because the U.S. team was rittled with injuries.

- Gymnastics (Womens Team Finals)

U.S. could of had it.  China leaves the door open with a mistake and Alicia Sacramone messes up on balance beam.  Then she got even more rattled and messed up on floor exercise.  So they got silver.  China gets gold

- Swimming

There have been tons of records broken so I am not going to list them.  If you want to know them, search around.  But Michael Phelps is the story, winning hist 11th gold medal for himself in his olympic career, making him the athlete with the most gold medals EVER.

There is more stuff, and I will edit this post later today possibly.

Football - Brett Favre Traded to Jets

Whoah!  Brett Favre a Jet?  It looks like Brett Favre was traded to the Jets last night.

If you did not read my last post, Brett Favre, long-time Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers retired last year. But then un-retired, then was unsure if going to stay at Green Bay, then there were rumors of many teams in talks with Green Bay to acquire Favre.

I will post again if this trade ends up not being final. But here is the article:

Olympics - Air pollution

So the athletes started to arrive. And some U.S. cyclists arrived wearing masks to shield themselves from the poor air quality in Beijing. Of course the Chinese were not pleased with it. But seriously, clean up your friggin air quality if you are going to hold the Olympics.

In the article, I agree with one of the athletes when they said that they have been training their whole life for this moment and would not take any chances. Think about that, you train hard for years, work your butt off and then you get to the Olympics and you start coughing and do poorly. Screw that, wear the masks. Sorry Chinese, I know its egg on your face but you had like 8 years to plan for this. Get over it, you are not perfect and your air quality sucks.

Get on the Green train.

Football - Brett Favre Retirement Pt 1

Sorry, it has been a few days since my last post.  So I say part 1 for this posting because I dont have all the details and I am kinda confused.

But basically, Brett Favre, quarterback for the Packers retired last year.  But then rumors surfaced that he was coming out of retirement.  Then stories came out that the packers did not want him to un-retire.  It appears now that he is coming out of retirement.  I am still confused as to whether or not he is going to be playing for the packers or not.

Nick, our resident sports guru.  You got any more details for us?

Olympics - Iraq banned

Iraq is banned from the Summer Olympics.  I still cant figure out why they were actually banned, you can read the article here.

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5guAoWR4d13iPmyA1Ic8qeJR2S58wD924BIH00

I think its kind of a bummer that they will not be participating.  The olympics transgress politics and was hoping for one of those visa moments, where a US athlete helps up a fallen Iraqi athlete or vice versa.

Summer Olympics - Opening Ceremonies

Remember, summer olympics start on Aug 8, well the opening ceremonies do, but they are cool too.

I may be a sports idiot, but I love the olympics.

The below link has a pretty good overview of the schedule, that does not mean everything will be televised though.

http://www.nbcolympics.com/resultsandschedules/index.html

Table tennis, I gotta see that this year on TV. And when did trampoline become an olympic sport?

Football - Jason Taylor trade

For you sports idiots, you may Jason Taylor as the football guy from this season’s Dancing with the Stars.  He made it to the finals.

Well on the sports side, Taylor pirohuetted over to another team.  He was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Washington Redskins.  He only ever played for Miami.

Never know, somebody may bring it up and now you know something about it

2008 Espys

The Espys were on last night.  I dont think I have ever actually seen the Espys, but they are like the Oscars for sports.

Tiger Woods won three trophies at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, including his fifth male athlete of the year award, giving him a career-leading 21 wins in the show`s 16-year history.

Woods surpassed retired cyclist Lance Armstrong for most wins as male athlete.

Even after hearing that they were on I could not bring myself to watch the award show, instead I watched Ocean’s 11 on TV with commercials for the 8th time.

Baseball - Best Worst - 07/21/08

Right now the best team in the league are the Los Angeles Angels, worst is now San San Diego Padres.

Baseball - Mets - Win 10 in row

The Mets just won 10 games in a row, and are now first in their division which is the National League East.

The longest winning streak in Major League Baseball:

The 1916 Giants won 14 tied 1 won 12. In baseball, apparently, thats a 26 game winning streak as tied games are replayed but as one individual said, if the stats count, the games count.

The longest true winning streak was 21 games by the 1935 Chicago Cubs.

But those seasons were not 162 games as they are now, so another stat is:

The Oakland A’s got a 20 game win streak in 2002, which became the longest win streak in a 162 game season.

Kind of a cool nug to know.

Cycling - Tour De France - More Doping

Baseball - Roger Clemens - Steroids

Roger Clemens has been in the a news a bit in the last year for allegations for steroid use which he denies. There is news out today that there is documentation of shipments of steroids to Clemens house. Check out the article if you want more info.

If the evidence is true, he could be held for perjury for lying to congress under oath. Whoopsy daisy.

For you sports idiots, Clemens was a pitcher for quite a few teams in his career, but his last team he played for was the Yankees. And I guess he is most known for his 12 seasons at a Boston Red Sox.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Clemens

Many months ago I saw Clemens do an interview on 60 minutes or dateline, one of those. He actually sounded convincing to me that he did not use steroids. Who knows maybe he is good liar.

Baseball - All star game

The American League won the All-star game last night at Yankee Stadium.  Some teams in the American League are Boston Red Sox and NY Yankees.

I did not realize that this was the last all-star game at the current Yankee Stadium, so they had all these past baseball greats and celebs there.  Ooops…  I missed it, I didn’t know it was such a big deal, see I am sports idiot.  I was watching ‘The Dark Ages’ on the history channel on netflix.

Also, not sure if this is true but in an article I read, the winner of the All-star game gets home field advantage for the world series.  So a team in the American League will have home field advantage this world series.  Thats cool baseball nug to know.

Guess thats why they play the all-star game mid season.

Football - Brett Favre - Retirement

With Football season approaching somebody may bring this up. Brett Favre was quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, but retired last year. Now there is talks of him coming out of retirement, but he wants to be released from the Packers. Nothing been decided yet but September is around the corner then peeps will be talking about Football.

If you want more details, you can do searched for Brett Favre and find out more, but I could care less. And just the fact that I know he retired and is thinking of coming out of retirement is good enough for me to not sound like an idiot.

Whenever I here Brett Favre, I think of There’s something about Mary… Brett Favvvv … rrreeee

Heh

Baseball - Best Worst - Updated 7/14/08

Tampa Bay Rays as of today do not have the best record anymore. The Chicago Cubs, LA Angels, and Boston Red Sox have better records now. The Rays went on a 7 game losing streak.

Washington Nationals have the worst record.

Cycling - Tour De France - Doping

Check out my newer post about doping

——————————

The Tour De France is going on right now. Another rider tests positive for doping. Check it out if you are interested.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/cycling/tourdefrance/2008-07-11-positive-test_N.htm

Is this race becoming a skill not only in cycling, but also who is better at hiding doping? Crazy.

I posted about Floyd Landis and how he was stripped of the Tour De France title from 2006. Check it out.

Baseball - yankees vs rays and Best - Worst

Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays today for 2 times in a row.  Tampa Bay Rays still have the best record, but the Chicago Cubs  and LA Angels are creeping in.  The have the second best records.  Washington Nationals have the worst record right now.

I never heard of the Nationals before.  But after reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Nationals

They used to be the Montreal Expos.  There’s a nug for you sports idiots.  Drop that on a sports guru who thinks you are a sports idiot, “So the nationals are the worst in the league, and didn’t they used to be the Expos”  Boom… no more idiot.

Wimbledon - Give me a hug

This is so weird. Saw this video of John McEnroe interviewing Roger Federer after the championship match against Nadal.

“Give me a hug…”

So weird that its funny.
